freispace vs farmerswife

A cloud-native alternative to farmerswife for post-production scheduling

Browser-based for every role, unlimited users in every tier, published pricing and reporting built in. Compare the capabilities below.

What freispace does differently from farmerswife

  • No client installs for anyone. freispace is 100% browser-based. Planners, operators, freelancers and management all get the full feature set in any browser, with no application to install or update.
  • Intuitive interface, fast to adopt. Home Post Production went from kickoff on 1 October 2025 to full cloud operations by the end of the month, with no dual-running phase. As Olly Strous, Chief Technology Officer of Zinc Media Group, puts it: “The key thing for me is that you don’t need a PhD in the software. It needs to be intuitive from the outset, so people can log in and get up to speed very quickly.”
  • Real-time visibility. Moving a booking used to mean phone calls, emails, and tab-by-tab updates. With freispace, schedule changes propagate to everyone instantly, in real time.
  • No per-user fees. Every plan includes unlimited users, projects and resources, so that administrators, planners, employees and freelancers can all gain access without additional charges. Our pricing page is public and transparent.

What customers actually say

Bumblebee, the post-production arm of Zinc Media Group, replaced a legacy on-premise scheduling application and a parallel set of Excel sheets with freispace — consolidating London and Glasgow operations under one cloud platform.

Olly Strous, Chief Technology Officer, Zinc Media Group

“The key thing for me is that you don’t need a PhD in the software. It needs to be intuitive from the outset, so people can log in and get up to speed very quickly. That’s where freispace stood out.”

Olly Strous Chief Technology Officer, Zinc Media Group
Simon Lyell, Head of Post, Bumblebee Glasgow

“Before, if you wanted to move things, there was a latency in answers. Now, those decisions can be made in seconds.”

Frequently asked questions

Is freispace a true cloud-based alternative?
Yes. freispace is a fully browser-based, multi-tenant cloud platform. There is no on-premise server to maintain and no VPN required to use it from home, on the road, or across multiple facilities. Teams log in from any device and see the same real-time schedule.
Can freispace handle multi-site post-production?
Yes. freispace is built for multi-site operations. Zinc Media Group’s Bumblebee uses freispace to unify London and Glasgow facilities in a single view, with location filters, permissions-based access, and real-time conflict detection across sites.
How quickly can a facility migrate to freispace?
It depends on how much history you bring across and how many sites you run. Home Post Production replaced its previous scheduling system across the whole business in 30 days. Bumblebee took a different route: a clean “fresh start” — setting a go-live date and rebuilding resources, rooms and kits inside freispace rather than running a two-system data migration. If you are moving off farmerswife, we will scope your data export with you before you commit to a date.
Do freelancers need their own paid licence in freispace?
No per-user licence walls. freispace is priced for the whole facility, so freelancers, edit assistants and external collaborators can be granted permissioned access without buying additional seats. Unlimited users applies to every tier; time tracking is included for 10 users on Focus and for unlimited users from Frame upwards.
Does freispace replace the spreadsheet workarounds running alongside our scheduling system?
Yes. If you still rely on Excel for staff planning, long-form projects or remote sites, freispace consolidates these into a single source of truth, removing the manual cross-referencing between application and spreadsheets that creates double-bookings.
What about reporting and utilisation analytics?
Reporting is built in. Schedulers and management see utilisation across people, rooms, and kit in real time, and Bumblebee uses freispace utilisation data directly in internal reporting.
